Messiah performance planned by Beverley choir

2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Beverley Chamber Choir’s first Good Friday concert

in St Mary’s Church Beverley, and the milestone is being marked with the Messiah.

Now under the direction of Jeffrey Makinson, the choir will be joined by a professional orchestra drawn from musicians from the North of England, in the intimate setting of St Mary’s Church Beverley, to perform a small-scale version of Handel’s work.

This Good Friday performance with 35 singers is intended to be very similar to Handel’s original which he oversaw in its first performance at Easter in Dublin 1742.

Although the Messiah has become a traditionally performed at Christmas, sometimes with hundreds of singers, it was originally composed to be sung at Easter with a small choir and orchestra. It is this experience that Beverley Chamber Choir will re-create on Good Friday 19th April.

The Choir will be joined by professional soloists, Eleanor Gregory, Joyce Tindsley, Guy Elliott and Stuart O’Hara.

Tickets are £17.50 and £12.50 and available through the website: www.beverleychamberchoir.org.
